Introduction

PROFILE OF DIRECTORATE OF ACADEMIC OFFICE (SENATE/EXAMINATION AND RECORDS)

One of the divisions of the Registry is the Academic Division which house Senate, Examinations and Records offices.

The Academic Division is headed by a Director who assist the Registrar and Secretary to Senate in all Senate and academic matters. For instance, Senate receives proposal from Colleges, Faculties and Departments on academic programmes, deliberate on them and come up with policies on the composition of courses. The Senate, therefore through its committees, participate in all level of academic decision-making in the University.

Furthermore, the Examination and Record Unit is the custodian of all records of students, except those of Postgraduate programmes. The office receives records of all fresh students who have duly completed their registration and matriculated.

The office is responsible for the issuance of Statement of Result to successful students pending the issuance of certificates as well as academic transcripts.

Finally, the philosophy, vision and mission of the division is not different from that of the University. Apart from the Director who is the head, the Division also have the following categories of staff; a Deputy Registrar, five Principal Assistant Registrars, two Senior Assistant Registrars, three Secretaries, three Clerical Officers, a messenger and five Casual Staff.

Director's Profile

CHINONYE ABRAHAM AJIE hails from Ohiauga in Ogba Egbema Ndoni Local Government Area of Rivers State. He began his Primary Education in 1967 in St. Paul State School, Elele Alimini in Emohua Local Government Area also in Rivers State. His Primary Education was concluded at State School Obite in 1973.

Dr. Chinonye Abraham Ajie attended Teacher Training College Ahoada where he obtained Teacher’s Grade II Certificate (T.C.II) in 1980 and later in 1982 proceeded to Rivers State College of Education, Rumuolumeni, Port Harcourt where he earned Nigeria Certificate in Education (NCE) in 1985.

He hold a Bachelor of education (B.ED) degree with Second Class Honours (Upper Division) from University of Port Harcourt in 1992. Dr. Chinonye Abraham Ajie taught in Primary and Secondary Schools. He later enrolled for Master Degree and obtained Master of Education (M.ED) in Educational Administration in 1998. Within this period Dr. Chinonye Abraham Ajie was a classroom teacher and rose to the rank of Vice Principal Academics in Community Secondary School Erema in Ogba Egbema Ndoni Local Government Area.

In 2000, Dr. Ajie was employed in the College of Education, Rumuolumeni, Port Harcourt as Senior Assistant Registrar. Between 2003 to 2006, he served as Students’ Officer. By 2006, he obtained a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D) in Educational Administration in the Department of Educational Management, Faculty of Education, University of Port Harcourt.

His career in Administration progressed rapidly by the help of God. He was promoted to Principal Assistant Registrar and appointed a Deputy Registrar in 2009. He worked at St. John Diobu Campus of the University as Head of Administration and between 2010 to 2011 he was Deputy Registrar and head of Administration, Ndele Campus. Between 2011 and 2014 Dr. Chinonye Abraham Ajie was Deputy Registrar Establishment. In 2015, he was appointed Director of Administration. From 2015 – 2016 he was secretary Post Graduate School with a mandate to start Post Graduate School Programme which he did creditably. Today the University runs various graduate programmes, courtesy of his initiative.

Later in 2016, he was redeployed to Students’ Affairs as Director, Student Affairs. From February 2022 till date, Dr. Ajie was posted to Academic Office as Director, in-charge of Senate, Examinations and Records. He has also served in various committees, which includes; covid-19 committee; Inaugural Lecture, A&PC Junior Staff, 10th Anniversary and many others.

Dr. Chinonye Abraham Ajie belong to many professional organizations which includes; Nigerian Institute of Management (NIM); Institute of Co-operate Administration (ICA); Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN); Nigerian Association for Educational Administration and Planning (NAEAP).

He has made the following publications:

Mr. Wilson, Ebiriene Ibokama was employed by the then, Rivers State College of Education as Administrative Officer II in the year 1994. He rosed through the ranks to his present position.

He holds a Bachelor of Education (B.Ed) degree of the University of Ibadan, he also holds a diploma Certificate in Computer appreciation.

Mr. Wilson Ebiriene Ibokama, belongs to several professional bodies among which are: Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria, Member Nigerian Institute of Management (NIM), Senior member, Institute of Public Management (IPM), Member, Nigeria Chartered Institute of Public Administrators of Nigeria (NCIPA).

Mr. Wilson Ebiriene Ibokama is currently the Deputy Registrar Examination and Records of the Senate/Academic Office.

Mr. Wilson’s duties in his present office includes the following but not limited to; deputising for the director, when not available, recording and presenting senate proceedings, minutes, decision extracts etc., ensure implementation of senate decisions and issuance of statement of results to students, preparing and issuance of academic transcript of students and any other duties as assigned by the Ag. Vice Chancellor, Registrar and the Unit Director.

His previous duties in the University includes the following: head, St. John’s Campus Administrative, Head, Ndele Campus Administrative, Faculty Officer, Humanities, Education, Centre for Continuing Education (CCE), University Governing Council Officer, Ag. Head, Admissions Office, Administrative Officer in different Departments e.g. Primary Education Studies (PES), General Studies etc., Ag. head, Academic Office/Senate (Exams and Records), member, Security/Surveillance Committee, New Staff Quarters Ignatius Ajuru University of Education.

Mr. Uchenna Prince Nwankwo

Mr. Uchenna Prince Nwankwo is a senior staff of Ignatius Ajuru University of Education, Rumuoluomeni, Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Nigeria. He is a Principal Assistant Registrar in the administrative cadre of the University.

He attended Community Primary School, Chokocho Etche and County Grammer School, Ikwerre/Etche and obtained the requisite certificates for Primary and Secondary Schools respectively.

He holds; NCE – Business Studies, B.Ed – Accounting, M.Ed – Educational Evaluation, all obtained from University of Ibadan and M.Sc. – Accounting obtained from Ignatius Ajuru University of Education, Port Harcourt. His Ph.D – Accounting is in-view with Ignatius Ajuru University of Education.

He is a member of professional bodies; Member, Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria; Member, Institute of Entrepreneurship; Member, Institute of Corporate Administration and Member, The Boys Brigade Nigeria among other numerous associations.

Presently, he serves in Academic Office (Senate) Unit of the University as Principal Assistant Registrar (PAR), Senate and he is also in attendance in the University Senate meetings.

He is saddled with numerous duties in his present office which includes the following but not limited to; writing of minutes of Senate meetings, administrative minuting , verification of students’ documents prior to issuance of Provisional Results, communication of Senate decisions to recipients, profiling of official documents, raising of memos, preparation of  Transcripts of Academic records of students, execution of duties as directed and any other duty that may be incidental to his office. Besides these, he takes custody of Degree Results approved by the University Senate.

He worked in Academic Planning Unit of the University and his duties were, University data collection, collation and analyses, Nigerian University System Management Portal (NUSMAP), Documentation of data for Resource Verification and Accreditation by National Universities Commission (NUC), raising of internal memos as directed, documentation, filing, retrieval of official documents. He once anchored the University digital training powered by Digital Bridge Institute under the auspices of Academic Planning Unit. He had served as Headmaster, Port Harcourt Primary School, Isaac Boro Street, Port Harcourt, the then University Staff School.

Prior to his appointment with the University, he served as Headmaster, Victory International School (Nursary/Primary) Rumuolumeni Port Harcourt; Pioneer Supervisor (Ag. Principal) Victory International High School Rumuolumeni, Port Harcourt; Head of Department and Subject Teacher, Istan Comprehensive High School, Ada-George Road, Port Harcourt; among other schools he served as teacher. He was a Security Personnel with Bulwark Security Services, Port Harcourt attached to Property Development Company, Onne and Home Guard Security Services, Port Harcourt.

Presently, he serves as Secretary, Send-Forth Committee for the immediate past Registrar of the University: Mrs. Hope K. Dr. (Mrs) Dorathy Nwenenda Abinusawa is a senior staff of Ignatius Ajuru University of Education, Rumuolumeni, Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Nigeria. She is a Principal Assistant Registrar in the administrative cadre of the University.

I attended community primary school, Ohiauga a community in Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Arear (ONELGA) in Rivers State where I obtained my First School Leaving Certificate (FSLC).

I also have a B.Sc. (First Degree) in Economics, obtained from University of Uyo, Uyo Akwa Ibom State and an M.Sc. (Second Degree) in Economics – Monetary Option obtained in Ignatius Ajuru University of Education.

Presently, I serve in Academic Office (Senate) as a Senior Assistant Registrar (SAR).

My duties in Academic office includes:

  1. Final clearance of granduands in the departments of Economics, Integrated Science, English, Mathematics and statistics, and Home Economics.
  2. Sorting of files for graduands of the aforementioned department

  1. Attending of Senate meetings when demanded to do so
  2. Preparation of Academic transcript
  3. Executes jobs as directed by my Boss and any other duties assigned to me by my superiors in the unit.

Before now, I was solely responsible for certificate production of our graduands from 2013 to 2018, collecting, scanning and hyperlinking of passports of all graduands, uploading and updating of graduands profile and data, sorting and issuance of certificate.
