OVERVIEW:
The Estate and Works Department consists of specialized technical team and professionals providing daily and routine maintenance activities on all university properties. It is an engineering outfit of the University charged with provision and maintenance of infrastructural facilities in the University for teaching, learning and research. The activities are closely linked with that of the Physical Planning who supervises all new construction works and hands over same to the works department for proper maintenance.

VISION STATEMENT:
To build a maintenance Department that will be responsive to the demands of the University and offer acceptable service delivery to its stakeholders. Also, to deliver globally recognized services in an enabling environment for the university community and the general public.
MISSION STATEMENT:
To provide professional, efficient and cost effective maintenance and management of the university facilities; encourage honesty and integrity in service and to provide the enabling environment for effective academic and non-academic activities in the university.
GOALS & OBJECTIVES:
• To ensure maintenance of all facilities on campus to an acceptable level of functionality
• To establish a modern technology driven maintenance system and rapid response to faults.
• To ensure continual personnel training with adequate provision of equipment for optimal performance.
• To ensure constant monitoring and attendance to maintenance complaints on buildings, plumbing, electrical installations and water supply in the University.

ENGR. JOSHUA OGURU
SPEECH:
The Estate and Works Department, is a technical unit which is directly responsible to the Vice Chancellor on issue relating to provision, operations and maintenance of facilities on Campus.
It comprises of other sub units which handles related assigned duties. All requisition for maintenance and other jobs requests from various segments of the University are processed and treated accordingly by each Unit Heads.
These officers most often carry out inspection and prepare estimate of the needed materials for jobs and expertly executes these jobs satisfactorily upon securing appropriate approval from the Vice Chancellor.
QUALIFICATION:
Bachelors (B.Tech) degree in Civil Engineering having graduated in 1987 from the Rivers State University of Science and Technology, Port Harcourt.
Registered Engineer with the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN).
MEMBERSHIP:
Member of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE).
PRESENT DUTIES:
He coordinates the activities of the Department. He is a member of various committee’s in the University such as Convocation Ceremonials Committee, Housing Committee, Primary School Management Committee, University Disciplinary Committee etc. He is married with children.
EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS: Diploma in Civil, B.Ed Technical Education (Building Option)
