General Studies

Over the years, General Studies unit had been part of the Faculty of Education when this institution was a college of Education and even when it became a university. The unit became autonomous in 2017 when the University Senate approved its authority. For the first time in the history of the unit, it produced books for all the courses that were taught by the unit. A total of eight books were produced.

The philosophy of General Studies is anchored on the idea of producing a well-rounded, morally and intellectual capable graduates with vision and entrepreneurial skills in an environment of peace and social cohesiveness.

  1. Acquisition, development and inculcation of the proper value of orientation for the survival of the individual and society.
  2. The development of intellectual capabilities of individuals to understand, appreciate and promote peaceful co-existence.
  3. Produce graduates with broad knowledge of the Nigerian National and people with a view to inculcating in them natural understanding and patriotism.
  4. Exposing undergraduates of Ignatius Ajuru University to the rudiments of ICT age.
  5. Preparing students for a post university life with opportunities for job creation and entrepreneurial skills.
  6. Production of graduates capable of communicating effectively (both oral and written).

In addition, the use of computer base examination (CBT) was introduced in first semester 2018 and since then GNS examination has been C.B.T.

All these achievements were made possible under the leadership of the General Studies Director Prof. Chioma O. Chukwueggu and the assistant Dr. Samuel O. Wagbara.
