Welcome to the Faculty of Vocational and Technical Education where opportunities are offered to undergraduate and postgraduate students to achieve their dreams.
The faculty comprises three (3) Departments that offer three-degree programmes in Agricultural Education, Home Economics and Hospitality Management Education and Industrial Technical Education.
Each Department has articulated its specific mission and objectives as well as the particulars of its academic programmes in line with the vision and mission of the University. All the programmes were crafted with a view to producing job-ready graduates in science, Technical and Vocational skills and capacity for independent thinking, creativity and resourcefulness.
The curricula of the programmes are unique, robust, current and comparable to the best in the world. They are designed not only to meet and surpass the basic academic standards prescribed by the NUC Benchmark Minimum Academic Standards (BMAS) for undergraduate programmes in Nigerian Universities but to also equip the students.
This makes them vocationally buoyant, intellectually resourceful and physically fit to emerge as leaders in their chosen disciplines and solution providers in areas of their future endeavours.
The quality of the graduates speaks volumes about our enviable pedigree in knowledge dissemination. We have trained not only career leaders but life-changers that made their marks in various spheres of life nationally and internationally.
In this faculty, we hold strongly to our lofty ideals of positively transforming society, thus we seek young men and women who are motivated and eager to rediscover the world through the knowledge of science technology and vocational education. I sincerely hope that these young men will make a difference in this science-vocational-technology environment. The faculty is ready to provide mentorship and support to the students, so do not hesitate to avail yourself of the opportunity to tap from the considerable experience of our faculty and the other staff.
Once more, I welcome you to the Faculty of Vocational and Technical Education where dreams become realities and the future is assured.
PHILOSOPHY
The philosophy of the faculty is in cycle with the land grant philosophy of the University. In keeping with its land grant ideal, the faculty academic programme was planned to meet manpower needs in Nigeria. This is the main driving motive behind the faculty.
The all-encompassing aim was to refine the best from conventional universities and blend them with a peculiar Nigerian situation in other to evolve a programme relevant to the aims and aspirations of Nigeria. The faculty lays emphasis on academic excellence according to a modern view of university education.
VISION STATEMENT
Faculty of Vocational and Technical Education is a Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) System that is fully integrated into national education and training provision; adequately resourced and recognised in its contribution to productivity and personal and national development.
MISSION STATEMENT
To attract, educate, train and transform qualified personnel to high-level manpower that are thoroughly equipped with adequate and update knowledge and specialised skills in research and innovation and deployable for exceptional development and improvement in all fields of human endeavour.
To bridge the gap between vocational and technical education programmes’ preparation and the student entrance into the world of work. Preparing students for the transfer from school to work requires a greater variety of educational preparation for work and demands new levels of integration of general and Vocational and Technical knowledge and skills.
