PHILOSOPHY
The Programme has been developed on the fundamental assumption that the student is entitled to acquire profound theoretical and practical knowledge to equip him/her to face the challenges of life, to enable him/her to be self reliant, contribute to National Development and be able to cope with the problems of his /her environment.
This is the era of accountability and accounting ensures that accountability in any organization is maintained. Every organization requires the use of accounting information. It is, therefore important that there are enough qualified accounting educators and practioners. This is geared towards the realization of the concept and philosophy of the National Policy on Education as regards Business Education (Accounting) in National Development.
The curriculum is designed to give him/her a broad knowledge of Business Education and at the same time concentrate in his/her special field – Accounting. To this end, emphasis is placed upon professional education of the entire individual and providing him/her with the background necessary for his/her effective performance in his/her career
OBJECTIVES
The programme B.Sc. Ed Accounting) as offered by the department has the basic objectives to:
Produce well qualified accounting education graduates who will be able to teach accounts/book keeping in secondary schools and other related educational institutions.
Produce graduates with the right skills to enable them carry out the duties and responsibilities of Accountants in;
Industrial and Business Establishments Government Establishments Statutory Corporations and Parastatals.
Produce graduates who will be involved in the much desired revolution of vocational development in our secondary schools.
Equip the graduates with necessary competencies so as to qualify them for a post graduates programme in Business Education and in Accountancy.
Equip the students with relevant skills to be able to undertake research in his/her field of specialization.
6.3 ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS INTO UNDERGRADUATE PROGRAMMES IN THE
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS:
Minimum Requirements for Entry into First Year Bachelor Degree (B.Sc Ed) :
Candidates seeking admission into the degree programme(s) in Accounting are expected to possess the Senior Secondary School Certificate (SSCE) or an equivalent qualification acceptable to the department. Candidates must obtain at least credits in five subjects at senior secondary school taken at not more than two sittings. The credit pass must be in such subjects as English Language, Mathematics, Economics or Commerce and any two from the following subjects: Government, Book-Keeping and Accounts, Business Methods, Typewriting, History, C.R.K, Literature in English, Candidates seeking admission by Direct Entry are expected to possess, in addition to credit level passes in English Language and Mathematics in SSCE (or equivalent examination), at least a credit level two – year diploma or three – year NCE with passes in Accounting and or related subject areas such as Finance, Banking, Marketing and Management. The course duration is four (4) years or three (3) years (for direct entry students) for the full time or regular programme.
