FACULTY OF MANAGEMENT SCIENCES
The Faculty of Management Sciences started in the mid-80s as the Department of Business and Secretarial Studies of the Faculty of Social Sciences at the Rumuolumeni campus when the University was a College of Education.
The department at inception had the following lecturers: Mrs Sarah Abigo, Mr G. S. Robert, Chief Faith Woke, Mr Sam Otamiri, Mr Rogers Haliday, Mr Mike Kerry, Mr Donatus Umannah, and Mr Faith Woke.
Others were Mr Guinea Robert, Mrs Nwakaego Chukwuigwe, Mr Georgewill, Mr Aweh, Mr Ikatta Emmanuel, and Mrs K. H. Eyindah.
At that time the Department offered only the Nigeria Certificate in Education (NCE) and a remedial programme.
In 1990, the department was moved to the Faculty of Vocational and Technical Education (VOTECH) at Ndele campus and got approval to run the Bachelor of Education Programme (B.Ed) in the 1991/92 session.
However, it was relocated to the St. John Campus of the University in 2000. Following the approval for the establishment of the School of Business Studies in the 2004/2005 session by the management of the erstwhile Rivers State College of Education, four Departments, namely; Accounting, Management, Marketing and Secretarial studies were created.
In 2016, the Faculty was moved back to the main campus and in 2021 and moved into a permanent building at the New Haven campus of the University. Thereafter, the name was changed to the Faculty of Management Sciences. Currently, the Faculty has five departments. They are Department of Accounting, Department of Finance and Banking, Department of Management, Department of Marketing and Department of Office and Information Management.
